About Us

The Village Hall was built with voluntary labour and officially opened in 1923. Since that time the Hall has been in constant use with only general maintenance being carried out, until in the late seventies when a plea for help was raised by the then diminished committee. An extraordinary general meeting was called and thanks to the strength of feeling of the community a fresh input into the committee started a new wave of fund raising along with the addition of alternative extra events, to raise enough money to apply for and receive a grant toward the extension of the hall, thereby providing modern indoor toilet facilities for all including the disabled. Lancashire County Council, Ribble Valley Borough Council and the Rural Development Commission provided the grant aid necessary to achieve the work. The Hall was then placed in the Hands of the Charities Commission and given the Charity No. 1076069.

In 1999 with further efforts to raise money and a successful request for aid from the National Lottery Charities Board, the Hall was given a complete new facelift both internally and externally fully equipped with new furniture, kitchen equipment and a new dance floor, all ready to meet the needs of the community well into the 21st Century.

The Chairperson, Officers and members of the Management Committee are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting which is normally held in September. They meet regularly to look after the day to day operation, events calendar, maintenance programme and private lettings within the objectives of the Charity, which are:

  • “to provide facilities for local groups and individuals to meet together from time to time to enjoy leisure activities which will enhance their lives. Particularly but not exclusively with the Parish of Dutton, part of the Parish of Ribchester, known as Knowle Green, Township of Longridge, known as Dilworth in the Ribble Valley Borough Council area within the County Palatine of Lancashire”.
  • “these opportunities are varied and wide ranging and will provide the relief of the elderly, vulnerable (such as young children or anyone with special needs) or hardship; the advancement of education; the advancement of religion; and any other charitable purpose for the benefit of the community”.

The Committee has accepted an Equal Opportunities Policy.

The Committee undertook a Disability Audit In 2001 through the Lancashire Disability Information Federation.

Membership of the Village Hall costs £5.00p, per year and fees are due on the 1st April.
